Oden

It just a week until Carlos leaves for his research trip to Greenland. First he'll fly to Svalbard before Oden takes off for Greenland for 4 weeks. He also got some nice advises from the professors regarding the trip and the first days at Svalbard.

Svalbard is not the worst place to be, however there are three things you should be aware of:
1. Do not walk outside the city limits as there can be polar bears. Locals always bring a rifle when they leave town.
2. Be aware of agressive birds. Since there are no trees, nests are on the ground and the birds are very protective if you are getting too close. They try to attack your head. Sometimes it can be helpful to have a stick with you that you hold above the head. Then they would go for the stick. I had one bad incident myself!
3. Do not climb any of the mountains in the city. These activities have high risk of injury and you don't want to be left behind in Longyearbyen while everyone else is going on Oden.
